Lonely Planet or Scary Planet?

I received precaution email from a friends, she is a headmaster in HK but less than 30 le. LOL! Not sure whether it is a nursery, primary, secondary or college headmaster though. But the way she abstract information from the famous Egypt Lonely Planet is very interesting.

Dear All (esp girls),

Below are some reminders for girls from the lonely planet tour book, plz have a look:
(All the Egyptian men all wolf - monsters)

1) Wear wedding ring, as Egyptian men seem to have more respect for a married women

2) It is better to say u are married rather than "just friends" when u are traveling with a men. (For this point, only pretending, GUYS!)

3) Avoid eye direct contact with an Egyptian man, dark sun glasses help.

4) Be careful in crowds and other situations where u are crammed btw ppl

5) Keep ur distance and avoid any physical contact with them, friendly talk can be misconstrued as flirtation by men unused to close interaction with women.

6) be wary when horse or camel riding, esp at touristy place. It is not unknown for a guy to ride close to u and grab ur horse, among other things. Riding with an unknown man on a horse/camel should be avoided.

7) If u do get groped, dun expect ppl to be ashamed or apologize if u call them out. Most guys will just sort of stare at u blankly and wander away. So all the advice to ignore, ignore, ignore is really wiser. (I dun really agree this point......)

* Then? Grope him or them back?

With all these negative first hand reports from friends, I started to think my trip to Egypt seems like a mistake even before it begin.

Adding the existing fears will be the recent kidnapping of tourist in Egypt.

As advised by my colleague, I informed Malaysia embassy in Egypt about my present there.

  1. i would say just be cautious and try to apply common sense. being too wary will spoil the mood of everything and no point travelling then.

informing embassy is a good move.
